At Aspley Special School we believe that ‘no student
is too anything to be able to read and write’ (Yoder, 2000).
As a secondary special school, one of our priorities is on post-school pathways and this embedded within our school motto of 'Learning for life', whilst also implementing the Australian Curriculum and focusing on communication and literacy, in line with our school improvement agenda.
Our school's curriculum is organised with
separate programs for our Junior
and Senior areas
of the school. Whilst containing different learning areas, each area's
curriculum has a consistent focus on our school vision and is student-centred
based upon the individual needs of our students. The school’s pedagogical framework is aligned to the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) model which supports students learning through explicit instruction, guided instruction, collaborative work and eventually interdependent or independent learning.
We have a strong commitment to maximising the potential
of each student, and we provide access to Vocational Education and Training courses as part of our curriculum.
