Sports Days

We have three sport houses:
Moobunga - Red
Waarnyland - Yellow
Spinapoonia - Blue
We hold a sports carnival annually that all students participate in - all are welcome to attend and cheer the students on.

Camps are a part of our school curriculum and as such most students will participate in at least one camp during their years at Aspley Special School. Camps provide a unique opportunity for staff to:
·         observe students operate in a non-school environment
·         identify specific life skills that can be focused on whilst on camp and on return to school.
Some camps have a very specific purpose and may involve students from several classes e.g. Fishing Camp.  Costs associated with camp are kept to a minimum but will vary according to the nature, location and duration of the experience.  Staff put a lot of effort into fundraising to keep costs to a minimum.  Parent support for these fundraising activities is also appreciated.

Interschool sport
On Friday, specific students may compete in interschool sport with other northside special schools.

On Friday, specific students may participate in choir which is held in the old staffroom.

The school has its own heated swimming pool.  Students participating in the swimming program are expected to bring their own swimming equipment in a bag.  Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly marked.  Students are required to provide their own bathing cap to swim and goggles, if required. As our school pool is covered, students will only need to wear a sunshirt when swimming in pools off campus.

Aspley Special School is fortunate to have a gym on school grounds that can be utilised by students, in supervision of staff, to support their health and wellbeing.

The school has an extensive range of computers, laptops and ipads with all classes networked to a server. A very comprehensive range of software, adaptive technologies and voice output devices are available. Technology is well used in this school and is an invaluable resource in supporting learning and skill development for our students. Please discuss the relevance of this aspect of the curriculum with your child’s teacher at the earliest opportunity.
