Aspley
Special School is located within the Brisbane North District of Department of
Education (DoE). The student catchment area is geographically very large,
spreading from the inner city to Eatons Hill, Sandgate and Bracken Ridge.
Therefore the school does not have a ‘local’ community in the way that schools
usually do.
Despite
the geographical spread of our student's homes, we are a community hub for our
surrounding suburbs. Community involvement in the school is centred around our Kingfisher Recycling Centre
and Coffee Shop.
Our
school has wonderful relationships with numerous community groups that provide
support to our students for targeted projects – in particular the Ridley Road
Mens Shed, Kedron-Wavell Services Club, Geebung-Zillmere RSL Club, Aspley
Orchid Society, Aspley Lions and the Variety Club.
We
also have nurtured a number of corporate partnerships with local businesses
especially Refund Home Loans, De Bortoli Wines, FoodFX, Bunnings and The Good
Guys Carseldine.
These
relationships have enabled the purchase and maintenance of a range of resources
including buses, science equipment, our school gym, mini golf course and much
more that enhance the quality of the school environment and promote student
learning and engagement.
