Facilities

Aspley Special School has a range of wonderful facilities to assist in teaching the individual learning areas as identified in the SET Plan and class programs are complimented by a range of specialist programs designed to expose students to skills training learning opportunities. These programs not only add value to the traditional curriculum but also help ensure that our students are as prepared for life after school as they can possibly be.

Boasting a heated swimming pool, the Kingfisher Recycling Centre, an amazing hospitality kitchen and the new under-construction Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden, we offer a range of programs to facilitate the learning for all students.

In addition, although our teachers are responsible for planning and delivering educational programs for all students, they often call on advice and input from a range of therapists and specialists that are based at, or visit our school.

Our school has a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist – all on a part time basis. Our therapists support students in the achievement of specific IEP and educational goals.  They work collaboratively with school staff and families to provide input into both individual and group programs.

Therapists use a combination of assessment, consultation and professional development for school staff to support students programs. Areas addressed include:

  •  mobility;

  •  communication;

  •  self care;

  •  physical fitness;

  •  mealtime management;

  •  literacy; and

  •  work skills.

Our school is supported by a Guidance Officer on a regular basis. The role of the Guidance Officer is diverse but essentially is to undertake a range of cognitive and adaptive behaviour assessments, provide advice to teachers and information to parents. They also play a significant role in assisting students to move to/from our school.
